EMRE UNAL: THE JOURNEY
09 - 31/05/2014
Presenting her first individual exhibition, Emre Ünal enables the viewers explore traces of the process of her questioning on human nature through her works of art. Reflecting human’s course of efforts at finding herself through questions starting with “why” and “how”, Ünal drags us into a journey through her observations.

In her exhibition “The Journey”, the artist who presents clashes and dilemmas between the characters that human being actually is of and the ones she wants and dreams to be of, by establishing a connection to their inner world, wants to catch the underlying causes and phases of transition from on existential state to another. Ünal’s perspective on photography is directly associated with her questioning on human nature and she draws the viewers in her adventure of questioning.

Her works “the Ghost” and “the Midnight Tales” feature a model in a garb like of an astronaut. The dream of being there and the motive to define oneself in a different reality, confronts the viewers with undefined places they have never been. Revealing the dimensions of transition from pure reality to a world of dreams, these works are visualized forms of these journeys.

“Onur” also displays antagonisms related to human’s state of ‘being’. Transition from the state of being male to being female and failure in both states, state of being torn between sides and a feeling of failure confront us.

The exhibition calls us to confront with our inability to disguise as well as pure humane existentialism.

The exhibition is the first display of Emre’s works on state and instability of human nature and while depicting these questionings, the artist preserves the color and composition aesthetics that she uses in her unique fashion work.
